Introduction / History

Port Vato is a village on the south edge of the Island of Ambrym in the nation of Vanuatu. The small people group in and around Port Vato (locally known as Daakie) are a mixture of Melanesian and European descent. They speak their own indigenous, Autronesian language.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Like other residents of the Vanuatu archipelago, the Port Vatos depend largely on fishing. They live in rural villages and often encounter tourists who come to visit nearby volcanoes.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Most of the Port Vato are Roman Catholic and Presbyterian.

What Are Their Needs?

The Port Vato would benefit from having the Bible in their language. This would stimulate individual discipleship, evangelism, and church growth.
